Week ending
24th August
The Vets finally got back into competition this Tuesday with a four ball
event. In a tight finish, Pat Moran and Bill Eaton took the win on countback
over John Harker and John Sampson, with both pairs scoring 42 points. Three
more pairs were just a shot behind, with Dave Cann and Cliff Burkin finishing
in 3rd place.
Week ending 31st August
The Vets managed to avoid the showers as they played a Texas Scramble on
Tuesday. Winning in impressive fashion with 59.8 were the team of Peter M West,
Phil Mitchell and Alan Leach who recorded an emphatic four shot victory over Cliff Burkin, Mike Tothill and
David Slough, with Jock Todd, Brian Welsford and Larry Mulhearn close behind in
3rd.
Week ending 7th
September
Vets Captain Tim Morgan’s charity day was a great success on Tuesday.
Combining an individual stableford with a charity auction proved popular, especially
to the winners! The best scoring came in Division 1, with Stuart Piper firing 42 points,
for a 2 shot victory over Vernon Cook, with John Moroney rounding out the top
3. In Division 2, it took a countback to separate the top 2, with Larry Mulhearn
just edging out Peter Vernon. David Slough also took 3rd place on
countback, 3 shots behind.
Week ending 14th September
The Vets played their Freddie Weekes Trophy on Tuesday. Scoring in
Division 1 was very good, with Mike Jolly coming in at the end of the field
with a net 64 to pip long time leader, Stuart Piper by a shot. 3rd
place was decided on countback, 3 shots further back, with Peter Wood edging
out John Foster. In Division 2, scoring was somewhat higher, with Steve
Crockford’s net 70 proving good enough for a two shot victory over Bob Parrish
and Peter Angus. The Division 3 stableford was won by Howard Marsh with 34
points. The competition was also the final round of the Eclectic, which was won
on countback by Stuart Piper, ahead of Edgar Forth.
Week ending 27th September
The Vets played an American Greensome on Tuesday. Making the most of the
benign conditions were the leading pair of John Moroney and Charlie Ward, as
they fired an 11 under par score of 58. Just 2 shots behind were another two
pairs – with Roy Gibson and Ron Bates taking 2nd on countback ahead
of Alan Whiteman and Alan Hopkins.
Week ending 4th October
The Vets played a Stableford this week. The best score, on a day of
consistently good play, came in Division 2 by Ron Bates, who finally achieved
the handicap reduction that his impressive recent results have deserved, as he
fired 42 points, to finish two clear of Larry Mulhearn. Vets Secretary, Norrie,
didn’t let his administrative duties get in the way of his golf as he finished
in 3rd. In Division 1, Adrian Jacobs led the way with 40 points,
just ahead of Peter Wood and Alan Leach.
Week ending 11th October
The Vets played a Texas Scramble on Tuesday. Leading the way were Peter
West, Steve Crockford and Norrie, who won by just over a shot from Eric Tose,
Peter Angus and Tony Sluman. Following closely behind in 3rd were
Roy Goodliffe, John Seatherton and Chris Swain.
Week ending 18th October
The Vets played a yellowball team event on Tuesday. Winning score was an
excellent 117 points by the team of John Young, Geoff Aylett and Dave Cann.
This meant that they won by 3 shots from Peter Angus, Roy Goodliffe and Bill
Eaton, with Edgar Forth, Peter West and John Sampson in 3rd.
