Week ending 7th September

Vets Captain Tim Morgan’s charity day was a great success on Tuesday. Combining an individual stableford with a charity auction proved popular, especially to the winners! The best scoring came in Division 1, with Stuart Piper firing 42 points, for a 2 shot victory over Vernon Cook, with John Moroney rounding out the top 3. In Division 2, it took a countback to separate the top 2, with Larry Mulhearn just edging out Peter Vernon. David Slough also took 3rd place on countback, 3 shots behind.

Week ending 14th September

The Vets played their Freddie Weekes Trophy on Tuesday. Scoring in Division 1 was very good, with Mike Jolly coming in at the end of the field with a net 64 to pip long time leader, Stuart Piper by a shot. 3rd place was decided on countback, 3 shots further back, with Peter Wood edging out John Foster. In Division 2, scoring was somewhat higher, with Steve Crockford’s net 70 proving good enough for a two shot victory over Bob Parrish and Peter Angus. The Division 3 stableford was won by Howard Marsh with 34 points. The competition was also the final round of the Eclectic, which was won on countback by Stuart Piper, ahead of Edgar Forth.

Week ending 27th September

The Vets played an American Greensome on Tuesday. Making the most of the benign conditions were the leading pair of John Moroney and Charlie Ward, as they fired an 11 under par score of 58. Just 2 shots behind were another two pairs – with Roy Gibson and Ron Bates taking 2nd on countback ahead of Alan Whiteman and Alan Hopkins.

Week ending 4th October

The Vets played a Stableford this week. The best score, on a day of consistently good play, came in Division 2 by Ron Bates, who finally achieved the handicap reduction that his impressive recent results have deserved, as he fired 42 points, to finish two clear of Larry Mulhearn. Vets Secretary, Norrie, didn’t let his administrative duties get in the way of his golf as he finished in 3rd. In Division 1, Adrian Jacobs led the way with 40 points, just ahead of Peter Wood and Alan Leach.

Week ending 11th October

The Vets played a Texas Scramble on Tuesday. Leading the way were Peter West, Steve Crockford and Norrie, who won by just over a shot from Eric Tose, Peter Angus and Tony Sluman. Following closely behind in 3rd were Roy Goodliffe, John Seatherton and Chris Swain.
