B TEAM v EAST DEVON

Sun 26 February at East Devon. First Tee 1200.

Thank you for those members who have made themselves available for the opening B Team match away against East Devon.
The team is; Peter Farmer, Malcolm Watchorn, Chris Tancock, Roy Clarke, Mark Jarman, Neil Prior, Ian Scott, Trevor Pope, Darren Ware, Andy Hitchman, Peter Bassnett and Simon Wills.
The first tee off is at 1200 and if at all possible players should be there by about 1100 so we can get ourselves organised. The usual rules apply reference the dress code if you can, and I am looking forward to an enjoyable day.

I am trying to resurrect the B Team Championship. I have penned it into the diary for 27 Oct and hope we can generate sufficient interest to revive and have an enjoyable day. Not having experienced this before I am abiding by the old qualifying criteria. In order to qualify for the Championship each player must have played for the team not less than three times and at least two of those appearances must be home games. The first qualifying game is against East Devon.

Our next outing is against the VETS and the calling notice is on the NB. Thanks for those names thus far submitted, but we still need some more. If you have never played B team before this would be an excellent introduction.

The B team season is nearly upon us and as the incoming Captain for 2012 I will try and keep members informed not only via the club notice board but also via the website.
My outline intent for the season and a preliminary fixture list has been placed in the clubhouse. This intent includes a desire to widen the number of players who will play in the B Team and, one hopes, further their enjoyment of the finest club in Devon.
I also wish to reinstate the B Team Championship and have tentatively placed it into the diary for 27 October. Qualifying criteria will be advised when I think of it.

We have two games in the immediate future; firstly a friendly warm up against the A Team, on Sunday 12 February, tee off 10.00. We would like more to attend than are currently listed. If you have not tried B Team golf this would be an excellent introduction and all are welcome.

Our season opener is at the excellent East Devon Golf Club in Budleigh Salterton on Sunday 26 February, tee off 12.00. The calling notice for this is also on the board and I would welcome members putting themselves forward as soon as possible.

I am also about to place a calling notice, for those who would like to register an expression of interest in playing for the B Team. I would therefore ask that members annotate their names and contact numbers on this list. This should provide me with a portfolio of members who I can call on if, perhaps, we are short one match, or have some late player cancellations.

On Sunday 12 February hardy members of both the A and B teams turned out for a light hearted but competitive friendly game against each other.
Three fourballs took themselves off and owing to an imbalance of team numbers a light switching of players from one team to another was needed. Despite a chilly start and the need for temporary greens (a rare sight at the Warren) 12 players, playing off three quarter handicap allowance, enjoyed 18 holes in improving conditions and some light refreshments and banter afterwards. Well done to B Team winners Malcolm Watchorn and Mark Jarman for their 3 and 2 win and also the A Team pairing of Jamie Nickles and Andy Bowers for winning by an equal margin. The third game finished all square so an honourable draw overall.

Some B Team diary news : The games against Wells GC have been amended. The same dates apply but the venues have been switched. This change has been made owing to some diary congestion at Wells which would have necessitated a quite late start for the game at Wells.

The dates now read : Sat 21 April Wells v Warren B Team at Wells Tee time 1230.
Sun 20 May Warren B Team v Wells at Warren Tee Time 1200.

I will reflect that change with a new fixture list on the noticeboard.
